Oh yeah btw. If you find good quality but thick, like 4" cedar timbers but have no way to reduce them in size, look around your area for custom furniture builders, come to find out there are quite a lot of them (who knew) most of them have large heavy duty table saws that can easily reduce those timbers relatively inexpensively. Then you can cut the strips normally.

Paying them for 2 or 3 cuts on a table saw in inexpensive, having them cut the strips isn't.

I made a friend of a guy in town that took one of my kayak building classes, is a semi retired custom furniture builder, found out there are a bunch of them in this little town, had no idea, never thought to look.
