Irresponsibility on your part would be
: preventing a builder from being able to determine if their boat has been
: built in a "good or bad" manner. I really don't think you meant
: to say it this way, but I'm not quite sure what you are trying to say, or
: avoid.

Hi Nolan,

Nick is not being irresponsible. If you or someone else needs to have their hand held through life that is fine but Nick doesn't offer this service!

If you want to find a better layup it is not Nick's responsibility to do the legwork for you. It is yours. You are attempting to avoid your responsibility by putting this in Nick's lap.

I think Nick is avoiding two things here:

1- having to do all the work that others are unwilling to do for themselves.

2- having to re-address issues that to him are unimportant.

I would bet that if you offered Nick a couple of million dollars to design, build and test kayaks he would consider doing it. This is the type of time, money and expertise it would take to do it properly. Anything less will simply add to the argument!

On second thought, Nick has a technique that is perfectly acceptable to him and he would probably rather build and paddle kayaks than conduct destructive tests. Maybe you should offer the money to George or better yet, save your money and do the tests yourself. Of course as Nick provides the bulletin boards to us free of charge, you will provide your data free of charge!

I have a friend who fabricates with titanium. Can he say that George's method is inferior to the point of being unsafe?? Should he care if there has never been a problem with George's layups??

Ian
