V-hull or not

If you look at the photo of the Anas, it's fairly flat beneath the cockpit. When I say "V" hull, the two boats I cited, they were "V" even in the center of the boat.

If the last one you built felt fine for you, you certainly have a good starting point. If you flatten out the same design, it will be a bit slower but youÊmay enjoy it much more.

As far as the comparison of the two Chesapeakes, maybe on paper the more "V" one had greater secondary ?? I couldn't tell but the greater primary stability one just felt noticeably nicer and more friendly on the water.

There's a huge difference in designing a boat for yourself and one for others. If you're happy that's what counts. But there is no holy grail and all boat design is a series of trade-offs.

Have you paddled and Anas or a Betsey Bay or some of the kit boat out there? That's what I would do and then you can formulate a more educated opinion.

I my humble opinion, the trade for low primary stability has to be fantastic for me to want to make that trade. In most cases, I'll take good primary. I paddle with a lot of different paddlers reguarly. A few Anas's, a Betsey Bay, some SOF some hard chine wood plus everything in plastic and glass you can think of. We all get to the same location at the same time. The better paddlers handle their boats better no matter what boat they are in.

Why I wouldn't want a flat bottom.
