Thanks Jay. Maybe I was wrong about the Anas in the very mid section - although from photos it certainly looks like the chines are a bit above the keel. The bow though is surely very V'd much further back than on many other designs, looking at the very high chines. Picture of the Q-boat successor to the Anas below.

Interesting comments about your experiences in Chesapeake 17s. Are you effectively saying that the more V'd one had lower primary stability but higher secondary, and would sit on a chine - as you might want when carving turns - very happily? If so, then that as a behaviour sounds like it's not necessarily a bad thing - as long as the primary stability is enough so that it will sit level when you want it to!

My last kayak was quite V'd - see linked linesplan below - and felt plenty stable enough both for me at 165lb and for my wife at a lot less. I'm doing another similar version but a bit bigger, for me this time, and have ended up with a much flatter bottom along more of the length and am wondering how they will compare...
