Just a thought: would it be possible to back up the strip temporarily? Maybe run a 1/2-width strip underneath, attached with hot-melt glue that could be removed later? You would have to do 1-foot sections to avoid the area where the forms are, but maybe it would be enough to support the span in between forms.

I had good luck with 1-minute epoxy on repeating butt-jointed strips, but they didn't have much bend to them.
