First, I know there is another thread about this topic, but there weren't a whole lot of serious answers, so round two. My wife and I want to start kayaking on the rivers and lakes around Kansas City, what boat or boats should we build to start? We live right at the confluence of the Missouri and Kaw, two big, ugly rivers, so it sounds like sea kayaks are a better option than short recreational kayaks.
I bought Nick Schade's book, and am currently lofting the Guillemot design (by hand, computer reminds me too much of work), but what we really want is a tandem. Is the Guillemot Double the place to start? Should we build that first? (To all you "divorce-boat" people out there, we do UE races on our tandem bike, so shut it.) What about the other tandem designs on the site?
It would be really great to hear from folks who have built tandems. Thank you!
