Skin-on-Frame: Skin on frame kayak questions

Ok getting near ready for kayak skining,currently planning on balistic nylon from skinboats.org, they have a kit.
I was wondering if you can paint the skin? What kind of pain should be used? Should you paint first then seal or seal then paint?
Are there any techniques that could be used to make the nylon look like seal skin to give the boat a traditional look?
I ask because i could not find anything on google and i dont want to accidentally do something that will compromise the nylon.

As a side question, i was reviewing books to order and i found a book called "Wood and Canvas Kayak Building" the book summary said it also goes into how you can make a fiberglass hull for your frame as opposed to a skin. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this technique, and/or direct me to some online resources to help me look into it.

The book is out of print, i checked for it at local used book stores and abe books with no luck. Amazon had one for 128$, i am not willing to spend that on a book at the moment.

I know its a lot for a first post, sorry for the long read and thank you for any advice.
