I forget who advocated it, but I remember reading somewhere where the author swore by a small sea anchor run through the front loop and led back to the cockpit. Throw it out when you want to stay head to wind for a reentry.

I never tried it myself.

The sea anchor, or indeed just a strong bucket, is bery handy for surreptitiously clipping onto the rear of a strong paddler's boat when they are not watching. Slow the bastards down a bit.

I advocate it.
The sea anchor is a very important bit of kit for rough water solo wet entries. I stow it in my cockpit.In my later post on this thread "fishing or sleeping?" see the submerged yellow thing with green bottle float, to stop the anchor sinking and creating serious grief.Only practiced it,never done in dire need though...Very exhausting excersise.
