Using aluminum for longitudinal elements (keel, gunwales, stringers) is a great idea. You will need to buy or rent a pipe-cutter, but otherwise it is less work than wooden pieces (and much, much stronger). Tubing is available in 20-foot elements, so you'd just need to cut the tube to size and flatten the ends with the hammer.

SOF greatly benefits from a sea sock, and in order for sea sock + spray skirt to fit securely, coaming 1'' tall and 1'' wide works best. For spray-skirt only it can be 0.75''.

Plywood frames tend to splinter at the edges, unless you use very high quality( and probably heavier) plywood. Epoxy applied to the edges of frames is very beneficial, for the surface of frames oil is good enough.
