I agree with everything Jay suggests except the use of detergent or soap.
This is the same issue as the lacquer thinner, you have no idea what chemicals or contaminates are in different brands. The detergent Jay is using, that seems okay, given the epoxy he's using and what he does, may not work for you with a different detergent and epoxy mix.

Alright! I know we're men, get a headlamp and go into a closet if you have to so other men won't see you, but if you read the instructions supplied with or ask for information for the epoxy you buy, they will spell out clearly what to do and which solvents to use.

Yes, water is a solvent too.
