I want to
: turn it over & get on to the deck or am I being impatient &
: unnecessarily fussy over what's going to be on the bottom.

Hi Glen

I don't suppose we can ever be too fussy if we are doing these things for the joy of creativity. We strive for perfection, or we would just buy second hand plastic boats. It would be far cheaper in the end.

Six weeks of paddling though and you are going to have scratches on the bottom of your boat. The first one is the real teeth clencher. Then one can relax and enjoy the boat on the water. If they get too noticible after a couple of years, one can always mask off a nice plimsol line and varnish the bottom with old fashioned paint. It will still look nicer than the most expensive plastic.
