First idea that occurs to me is this. The moment the boat changes hands you could buy it back. Easy way to "sell" it and then turn around and "buy" if for what its worth (with a recipit trail).

Just an idea "sell" it to a friend and then turn around and buy it back at an appraised value. We had to do something similar with a ring because the gold wasn't bought but mined (panned). To get a correct appreciation of the value of the object we sold it to a store and than bought it right back (same day) at the same price. We had a recipit, they had some good customers and every body felt good about the recipit later.
