That's a shame and it wasn't stupid. I have never locked my boats (maybe it's time to start) but as a lame attempt at security I always keep the hatch covers locked in the car and I also take a pic of the boat and put an identifying number hidden somewhere on it. It is difficult to reproduce hatch covers (on a stripper anyways). Makes it harder for them to use or sell and easier to identify.... You might want to go to...

and register it as stolen. Probably futile but you never know. Judging from the length of their list you aren't alone.
