The first time I glassed a hull, I had no prior experience with fiberglass and epoxy. The instructions said to fill the weave of the cloth, and I did just that (or so I thought). The boat turned out OK, but it was heavy (50lbs). I later learned on other boats I built that filling the weave means being able to see the weave pattern (not the white of the cloth) in the epoxy even after three coats. I learned to squeegee off all excess epoxy until I could see the weave. On the first coat I squeegeed off the epoxy until I could just see the cloth begin to appear as white. I applied the subsequent coats just as the previous coat was tacky. For me, I found out that this worked best. I didn't have to sand between coats, but it required me to dedicate a couple of days to the task of applying three coats.

Ps Are you going to fill the weave in the hallway of your gorgeous home?
