In Response To: Cockpit coaming (Ben Staley)

On my first boat I installed the recess and the vertical coaming strips and then glassed the deck. Not too difficult, but there was a little extra fussing about around the coaming. At the same time I also added an extra bit of glass over the fillets I made for strength. After sanding it looked fine.

On my last boat I built the recess, glassed the deck and THEN cut out the cockpit opening and installed the vertical strips and then added extra glass up over the vertical strips. MUCH easier. Just rough up the area where the fillet will go so the epoxy has something to catch onto. I will do this method again on my next boat.
