Oil is normally the problem and it doesn't take much to cause a problem. Need something that removes oil, a mild soap, like dishwashing soap disolves oil very well and is easy to rinse. How often do you have an oily taste on your dishes when eating? Scrub with a couple gallons of water with a few drops of dishwashing soap and a scotch brite pad, then follow with a clear water scrub using a new pad and you should be ready to go.
