Hi Darel,
Any oil or wax on the wood will affect adhesion of the fibreglass resin, akin to trying to glue a piece of wood with the finish on it. That's why folks stick to alcohol based dyes for wood kayaks under fibreglass rather than using oil based stains.

You can expect a similar "wetted out" look with clear epoxy resin similar to what you get with an oil.
