Hi Randy,
Here is Redfish Parr that I built for my daughter. It was built in 1 month. That was a tough month with working on it after work and on weekends. It is the 14 foot version and only weighs 22 pounds. She is about to outgrow it now and paddles my first strip build, a Guillemot. She does love her wood kayak very much because dad built it just for her. This one will be saved for my grand kids. I have 3 daughters so I expect some to come along someday.
I admit they outgrow them fast so if you decide on a strip build go ahead and get it built. He will also love the kayak that his Grand Dad built for him.
