: How well did the S-glass wet out?

I am very satisfied with the S-glass wet out. Saturating the cloth is more time consuming than E-glass, but I believe the cloth to be fully saturated. I followed Rob Mack's article "How To Make A Transparent Layup". The garage was 80-85 degrees, and the epoxy was warm.

From a distance, the layup looks transparent, and the the wood shows through the layup nicely. It's kind of like staple holes: as you move to a closer inspection, the weave of the S-glass is visible. This doesn't bother me, and no one who has seen the boat has even noticed.

On my S&G Merganser, I used Sweet's 4oz S-glass on the hull, and 4os E-glass on the deck. The E-glass definitely wets out to full transparency, whereas the S-glass weave is visible on that boat also. It's a minor thing to me, and I never really noticed that much before on the S&G.

Here's a shot of the deck with fill coats in place -- no varnish.
