I'm not trying to revive the recurrent NDK layup vs whatever debate ... but ...

As I recall NDK had quality problems about 7 to 10 years ago and there were a lot of complaints compared to other makes. But since then, I think they got a handle on the problem. These days I think the fragility claims are a bad rap which lingered over from yesteryear. I haven't seen any more busted NDK's than any other make. I'm sure that their layup could be engineered better but that can be said for every make. Regardless of their use of thick gelcoat, mat and that they may be a bit heavier than other boats ... I'll just say I'm more than satisfied with the structural integrity of my NDK. I've had absolutely no problems and I think that all things being equal, a lot of other makes will fail before an NDK will.

: NDK has done a very good job of marketing the idea that their layup is
: "darned near indestructable." I've seen a good number of NDK
: boats broken and they fail quite easily. They would actually be stronger
: if they used a lighter layup - less gelcoat, more/better glass. Their
: standard layup is quite brittle.
