: NDK has done a very good job of marketing the idea that their layup is
: "darned near indestructable." I've seen a good number of NDK
: boats broken and they fail quite easily. They would actually be stronger
: if they used a lighter layup - less gelcoat, more/better glass. Their
: standard layup is quite brittle.

: A stripper or S&G boat in the 45 lb range is generally comparable in
: load-to-catastophic-failure terms when compared to a 65 lbs glass boat. A
: wood-cored boat may sustain initial damage more easily in the form of deep
: scratches or bruises, but it takes a substantial hit to actually break
: bits off.

: A scratch on a wood boat looks a lot worse than a scratch on a
: gel-coated boat, but the damage is superficial. Real damage takes more
: effort.

Still depends on how it's built and of what. The examples I've seen on this forum tend to be built very well, not all are.

Was using the NDK as an example of weight, something I don't much enjoy picking up.
