In Response To: Strip: trouble with b&c routing (Pascal, in Chile)

Hello, Pascal-

I've got to throw my two cents in with Kent. Perhaps this is a sign that planed, not B&C, joints are for you :)

My first boat, I used B&C for the hull, and quickly gave it up on the deck. Next boat, started with B&C on hull, gave it up after a few strips. #3 and #4 are planed all the way. It's a simple matter to put a bevel on each strip, and roll the plane slightly (as required) to deal with differential bevel as you go down the strip. IMHO, it is less time comsuming (especially on the deck), gives tighter joints (although that is probably due to my lousy router technique), and much more pleasant (I would INFINITLY prefer to spend time with a hand plane than at the router table). In fact, many of the strips on the deck, as well as the bottom of the hull, require little or no beveling at all.

Either way, it'll work. I agree with the others about being cautious about lifting the bit up much, unless you're trying to start a router bit throwing competition to go along with my table saw kickback competition :) Mike
