I will bite. Here is my logic who knows if it is right?

Initially the low angle bow allows the bow of the kayak to ride up over ice to land a boat on an ice flow or ride up on thin ice to break it to allow forward progress when the ice is too thin to walk on. I am from SoCal so what do I know about ice?

If you look at a cross section (station view) of the long bow kayak at the station where the bow enters the water, the sides flare out above the waterline. This does add lateral stability to the kayak. It also adds floatation at the bow to ride over waves. The same with the stern and it rides up over following waves. As a result in rough water the long ends help add stability both laterally and to prevent plunging. At the same time the slender bow pierces through vertical or breaking waves easier than a blunt plump bow to maintain forward momentum.
