I think that if you oil your wood, and give it time to soak in and dry real well, it would probably stick. Maybe if it only stuck long enough for you to stitch the skin on the top side, that would be perfect. You could keep it tight and do the stitching and it would eventually pull lose. If it did stick through the sewing proccess then I'm sure it would release with the flexing of the boat in the water. That may be a desireable situation. With the oil, I doubt it would stick permanently. Wonder if Bill had tried anything like this when he did the " X."??? OIled first and then taped. ??
