: I've used Dynel in small applications without any excess resin problems. I
: found that if you can maintain a small amount of tension on the fabric, it
: won't soak up a ton of resin. What I do is: - Outline the area to be glued
: with masking tape

: - Cut the Dynel reinforcements oversize

: - Apply a thin layer of epoxy

: - Lay the fabric into the wet epoxy and smooth it out

: - Attach tape to the unglued edges of the fabric, apply tension, then stick
: the tape down.

: Once the epoxy has reached the green stage, trim trim the fabric to size with
: a utility knife and remove the masking tape along with the excess fabric.

: I've built up as many as 5 layers at one shot this way on small applications,
: but on a hull, you may want to do one layer at a time. You'd probably want
: a helper or two as well, to keep the fabric from moving around as you
: tension it.

: FWIW, I found that the Dynel/epoxy composite is pretty easy to work with a
: cabinet scraper, but doesn't like to be sanded. Considering that it's
: supposed to be very abrasion resistant, this makes sense. :)

I did a similar thing,
I ironed the dynel flat and then folded it over and ironed a crease to match the keel.
I then masked the hull with freezer tape.
I then taped the dynel down tight onto the freezer tape all the way around, making sure I layed the tape over the previously masked area.
I wetted it out with epoxy and cut off at the excess at the masking with a razzor blade before the cure was fully hard. It worked well and eliminated any sanding. Bruce
