I've used Dynel in small applications without any excess resin problems. I found that if you can maintain a small amount of tension on the fabric, it won't soak up a ton of resin. What I do is:

- Outline the area to be glued with masking tape

- Cut the Dynel reinforcements oversize

- Apply a thin layer of epoxy

- Lay the fabric into the wet epoxy and smooth it out

- Attach tape to the unglued edges of the fabric, apply tension, then stick the tape down.

Once the epoxy has reached the green stage, trim trim the fabric to size with a utility knife and remove the masking tape along with the excess fabric.

I've built up as many as 5 layers at one shot this way on small applications, but on a hull, you may want to do one layer at a time. You'd probably want a helper or two as well, to keep the fabric from moving around as you tension it.

FWIW, I found that the Dynel/epoxy composite is pretty easy to work with a cabinet scraper, but doesn't like to be sanded. Considering that it's supposed to be very abrasion resistant, this makes sense. :)
