: I'm about to buy okoume for my first Chesapeake kayak. I live in south Texas
: and okoume is scarce here. The only supplier I could find has Joubert (a
: French mill) 3mm, BS1088, okoume plywood at $35 for a 4x8 sheet. How does
: that fare to the more popular brands? I feel lucky to have found it, I was
: even comtemplating luan.

Stacy

Lots of folks have had good success with the Luan....door skins... as well as the Okoume, but, you have to be careful in picking your sheets. Also, may need a little heavier layup of glass for the Luan. Looking for quality as in ply thickness and few or preferably NO voids in the inner layer. The price you mentioned for the Okoume is fairly good compared to some I've heard. We've found it in one place here on the Central Calif. Coast for $34. Most are in the mid to high $40 range. Wait and see what some of the other folks have come up with. Lots of pros and cons here. Hope this helps!
