In Response To: 30' long baggies? (MikeWhy)

: How would you go about bagging something as large as a kayak?

In surfing through some of the vacuum bagging site, I see that some of the commercial bags are as thin as 3 mil. I wonder if you might be able to do the job with cheap 6 mil construction grade Visquene and duct tape? And maybe a manifold with several vacuum ports.

As to Rob's comment about resin starvation, I wouldn't think that would be a function of the vacuum process. The cloth is wet out beforehand with extra resin, which then gets squeezed out and into the peeler ply, which is then removed. Of course, if the layup was unsufficiently wet in areas to start with, or if the wood absorbed more resin in some areas than others, or if several layers of cloth were applied simultaneously, the result could be a waste of time. This might be a good advertisement for a seal coat prior to glassing.
