YES

I used to think so. But a couple years ago I was in Michigan at a boat builder's show sponsored by West Systems. Their tech guys claimed with two layers of glass MORE resin stayed in the cloth because the two layers were more sponge like and squeegeeing off excess resin was less effective. WHERE one layer squeegeed against a hard surface allowed more resin to be removed resulting in a lower weight lay-up. I do it this way now. Not much difference time wise, you have to apply fill coats anyway.

It's less likely you have trapped air bubble problems applying one layer at a time. And it is easier for people new to glassing.

Good enough reasons for me to use it and recommend it to others.
