: You can probably get the article from Sea Kayaker if you really want to. As I
: remember from the article, the author did it pretty much the way you would

Sea kayaker don't have that article anymore, but as they say, they will
mail you a photocopy.
I remembered mailing it to somebody, but Ross jumped first.
I mailed it to Ross years ago.

: think... Grab a saw and cut. Make some bulkheads to fit the ends, glass
: them in place and then mount bolts to hold it all together again. You can
: probably figure out the details yourself.

wrong wrong wrong !
first you place the bulkheads, glue them in place real hard, & only then
cut the thing !

I don't want to think what you'll get if you don't put the bulkheads first.

: I considered doing the operation on my Fast Double. Finding storage for a 25+
: foot boat can be tricky, but so far I have been successful so I haven't
: bothered sawing the lady in half.

AS for you Rehd,

I built my boat in the apartment I used to live in. as you know it is
a big mess turning your living room into a wood shop.
when the boat was done I had no place to store it, but on the floor in that same
livingroom it was born in. & it's also a big mess trying to get the boat
out thru the stairway. so I decided to cut it.

lots of work. lots of tension when it's time to actually cut the thing.
it's havier. I cut it to 3 pieces, the pieces are between 6'1" & 5'8".
the pieces are much lighter & are very easy to move by hand.
I used to own a Chevy Cavalier so nothing fitted into it. I assembled the
boat & transported it on the roof rack - no problemo.
assembling the thing takes me about 15 min. disassembling - 5 min.

I have pictures of the process & I'm eating my hart because I don't have
access to a scanner (anymore).

the boat is plenty strong.

my opinion - that take-a-part thing is wonderful. I am very pleased with it.

the boat is now stores behind a door in my apartment.

if anybody is looking for info, he is more than welcome.....
