: 2 layers on the hull? I use one layer of 6 oz and a football shape 6 oz.
: under it all wet out on non-coated bare wood. Don't use that thick 9 oz.
: fiberglass tape. It's too epoxy hungry and too rough to fill and feather.
: I use 6 oz. cloth on the inside and 4 on the outside seams. Cut my own
: tape from scraps. I use 4 0z on the outside deck and 6 on the total
: inside. It will save you weight and filling of the weave etc.

: I don't believe any mechanical bond will equal a chemical bond but for our
: use either will be fine. go to a non blush epoxy which will give you
: mental security about mechanical bonding. However always sand between
: coats if it hardens up.

I figure for the extra weight, roughly around 5 lbs, I can save about a week just in fairing out the edges of the tape and football shaped second layer on the bottom of the hull. I'm kinda up against the clock on this one as I'm away for 3 weeks in June and really don't want to be doing epoxy work come July. Next boat is going to be started on November. I could save weight by using 3 x 3.2 oz but there is very little difference in price up here in rural Canada so it's a matter of economics. I want two layers due to the rocky nature of the Bay of Fundy, some of those rocks can be real nasty and it's only a matter of 4 more inches up the sides to the sheer for the most part.
