: I like that dog nose. I wonder what the stern looks like (wagging tail???).
: ;^)

: I too am building a Spring Run. I've cut & milled the strips, built the
: strongback and attached the forms. I'm laminanting stems now.

: If I decide to install carved ends such as a dog nose when should I wait
: until after the hull and deck are assembled, cut off the ends, and install
: the nose? Or should I change the bow & stern forms to accomodate the
: carved ends?

Hello Brian,

I would wait until the hull and deck are joined and then cut off however much of the ends you wish to replace with a carving. You should, however, be sure to leave some backing (either wood blocking or end pour) to which you can epoxy the carving. You can then either fiberglass over the carving with the outside seam tape or epoxy the carving in place after all of the taping work is finished. Sand everything flush, coat the carving with epoxy, lightly sand the carving to remove any nibs, and your ready to varnish.
