Hi All,

Personally, I don't mind if an off topic subject shows up on once in a while or if a thread starts to wander. Usually the subject line is clear enough, it is my choice if I read them or not.

We have a fantastic community here, people with all kinds of knowledge that they are willing to share. It would be a shame to restrict that communication.

Sure, some subjects may not pertain directly to kayaks but after initial contact it is easy enough to take the discussion off line.

A prime example is that I make wooden bows. While bows are not kayaks, the demands that are placed on a wood bow limb are not much different than on a paddle shaft. I have posted comments that highlight the similarities and I have been contacted several times [off line] by members of this KBBS who wanted to know more about bows. Nothing wrong with that. Glad to help.

Yes, the main focus of this KBBS is kayaks and the wealth of knowledge is great. IMHO, it is the personalities of the members - the encouragement, the good natured teasing and the little tangents that make all the information more enjoyable.

The CLC BB has good technical information and you can get questions answered but it does not have the same "feeling" as we have here.

We have something special here.

OK, I have rambled enough, the soap box is free ;-)

Hank
