I think that the off-topic subjects can often come from a newcomer to the BBS. I would suggest that old-timers on this board just put the words OFF TOPIC or OT in their subject line to keep people from reading too far.

Also, if you don't like what is written in one post, don't ramble on and reply to it with venom, just move on to the next post that you are interested in. Similar to using the page down for some of the long posts that are uninteresting to me on some mailing lists. it sucks to see some people very bummed because they are practically attacked when they just started to read/enjoy this BBS.

Thanks for the great BBS Nick. Its excellent to have a place to go to bounce ideas off people and get solutions to a problem. Its also nice to see a few posts that are not entirely on-topic since it means that we all don't think wood yak all day long (maybe only 23.5 hrs/day).

Leave the board as is and maybe we can kindly remind people when OT threads get a bit long or unwieldy.

Ps. I just went to an adirondack mtn club mtg for the albany area last night for their paddling group and saw 2 nice wooden boats being used up here. One a CLC 17 finished white with bright deck and one Great Auk finished au natural. both looked great and it was nice to see some locals wooden boats and hopefully make some friends to go paddle with. when giving their little talk about the building styles they both mentioned their desire to build again, to correct mistakes etc - I added "An addiction" to the commentary. had to laugh ;)
