Actually, I parked myself on top and had to shimmy a bit to get off. It created a zig-zag scar on the hull where the cloth separated from the wood. You can see the weave of the cloth very plainly, almost like it had never been wet out. I think had I applied without the sealer coat, I'd have had better adhesion. Other than that one incident, though, the boat has held up well, even with a few rocky beach landings.
> Dean ****************** Perhaps the glass floated on you??? When I apply the sealer coat it is a VERY thin coat, I just came in from the shop after applying a sealer coat on a 17' Mandan and I used just over 16 ounces to seal the wood. The wood is NOT glossy. It has a dull wet color but there is no excess epoxy on the surface. When I apply the fiberglass I make sure that the first coat goes on fairly dry too... not so much as to starve the cloth but when using S3's warmed clear coat I get a VERY toothhy fiberglass/epoxy matrix after the first coat. Rugular S3 then fills in the weave. I did some test panels (air chamber covers) that I goofed up on once and it is impossible to pull the cloth from the wood EXCEPT for in places where the glass has "floated" That is not to say though that you MUST seal the wood. I think both methods are equally valid... I just like it because I use less of the expensive clear coat. Doug Doug
