Steven, I am in the process of building my first kayak, the Pygmy Osprey Standard. I am similar to you in that I have built electronic kits and shelves, but I am no wood worker. So far I am finding the building process one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. I would say “go for it”! You can track my progress through the link I have included below. Wayne
