One kit seller described the skills needed to build a stitch-n-glue boat as cutting out paper dolls, spreading peanut butter and stringing beads. If you can build your own fly rods you should make out OK.

Chesapeake Light Craft has a good tool list. Check their Web site or the book "The Kayak Shop."

I've worked in a 10 x 20 garage. You will need access to both sides of the boat. If you can walk around one end of the boat that's enough space. If you can walk around both ends that's even better. A lot of times I just duck under the boat to get to the other side, but I have rather high sawhorses to work on.
