In Pygmy's method you carefully measure the placement of each panel against a chalk line -- in my case I tacked the panels to a plywood floor I was working on before using the tape and epoxy. I'd imagine you could get these same measurements if you were working from plans. Note that in the Pygmy Coho, the panels don't actually butt together -- the edges are at a slight angle, and then later when you stich the panels together this curvature helps create the shape of the kayak.
