Mike,

I took my boat out to Port Townsend and had the Pygmy folks look it over. The glass tape method of butt joining the panels is new in the last couple of years. They told me that the wood changes color slightly due to exposure to oxygen and that when the oxydation stoped on the part of the panel that had epoxy on it and continued on the part that was still bare it caused the color difference. Sunlight enhances this process also, so my stripe is really something. I have seen others that are hardly visible.

Something they suggested is waiting a month or more before varnishing to allow the sun to darken the lighter areas.
