Here's an interesting bit. Direct drive saws run at higher RPMs than belt driven - different type of motor. So a 10 inch blade is going to spin faster on the direct drive.

I personally think the new league of direct drives are really good once you get past the $300 range and as good as the cheaper belt drives. But a good Expensive belt drive saw is a luxury to use. (threw that in for you John)
