Here's an interesting bit. Direct drive saws run at higher RPMs than belt driven - different type of motor. So a 10 inch blade is going to spin faster on the direct drive.

Isn't any blade going to spin at the same rpm on a direct drive saw? Or are some variable speed?

With a belt-driven saw you can change the motor pulley to spin the blade at the correct speed (for the blade spec and diameter). Generally, larger blades should spin slower than the smaller ones, I think?
