Any fasteners you put on the keel will end up causing leaks, there are better ways to protect the keel from abrasion.

I did staple the fabric down the keelson so make working on each side easier. The staples were covered by several layers of paint and finally, I screwed a keel strip over the fasterners, using gorilla glue which expands and will seal the keelson against any leaks.

The kayak is finished and I made a test drive this morning. It was very windy, not ideal conditions for kayaking, but great conditions to see how well the boat handled. The wind had little effect on the boat tracking straight and i made good headway into the wind. I don't plan to use the kayak on days where there is a lot of wind. It tracked straight enough, with just a few inches of going off center with each paddle stroke, tracking in a straight line overall.

I made a puncture test on one of the test frames that I covered and painted. Each frame had a coat of oil based primer and two coats of Rustoleum paint. I finshed it with camo spray paints (same for the kayak). We don't have rocks in the water or on the beaches of lakes in florida. I might encounter underwater linbs or stumps in some areas, but there are usually visual indications to warn you. The puncture test was more successful than i imagined it would bt. I made a video. I don't know how to imbed it here. Copy this link and paste in your browser to download and view the video. www.thesquidget.com/Dacron_skin_test.mp4
