There are expert kayakers who were there and survived. For the good of our community, I am sure they will render a detailed description and analysis of what happened once there has been time to grieve and recover. When that becomes available, I hope readers of this site who receive it will make sure we can all share it. The idea that Tompkins, being who he was, would capsize and not roll up seems a bit incredible. That the rest of the party could not rescue themselves or him indicates a weather event of catastrophic proportions.
