I thought I saw a post before about the combine temperature of air and water should equal 120*?

I do not know the origins of that rule but it is bad one! I would imagine on the Pacific Coast 50 degree water and 80 degree air is pretty common in the summer and that is 130. 50 degree water, depending on where you get the data, has a survival time of around 1 hour. But, your muscles are going to stiffen up long before that and you not going to be able to get back in the boat or rescue yourself in just a few minutes.

Water temp is the main consideration, you have to dress for it. Keeping in mind 'what if' situations, like what if I go swimming and I am in the water for an hour or hours.
