In Response To: Strip: Drilling for hatch magnets? (Thor)

Whenever I have inserted magnets, I have used two different Forstner bits to drill the holes. One with the point still on to start the hole and then switched to one with the brad point ground off to finish the hole. On the hatch lip, to prevent blow out, simply clamp a piece of scrap wood underneath so that as you go through, the backing reduces such blow out. I also glass the underside of my hatch lips for strength, so this reduces blowout as well.

On the lid, I use a drill press and gauge the depth by going slowly and by checking often. I have a write up on my "How to" page
