Do you have a fence on your drill press? Can you clamp the workpiece to the table? The key to preventing wander is to have something to support the workpiece so that it cannot move, then feed the bit into the piece slowly. You may need to use a high speed on the bit, but I would test various speeds to see what gives you the best cut with a slow feed rate. I would lean toward using the Forstner bit.
