I could not get the fabric on the stems to fit without wrinkles. Is this the stiffer 1678 or are there techniques I should know?

Style 1678 is a 40x40 weave. It should be fairly soft and is very nice for kayaks and canoes. Like Et said, on Greenland-style kayaks it's usually possible to cover the stems without wrinkles. Usually. On some designs the glass just will not conform. Using wider width glass (ie 60") and putting the glass on a bias can also help.

Overall it looks like you did a great job!
