This works best on woods with high tannin content. I'm not sure where Cedar falls on that, but you can buy tannic acid to treat your wood with so that it works better. Also- the process creates hydrogen gas, so leave the lid on your jar loose. It actually generates enough gas to pop the seal on a canning jar lid. It works really well.
