Great work, and you make some excellent points. Given the impossibility of 'exact' comparisons between the different hulls and the vagaries of the model, I would say that the lengths are equivalent at lower speeds with the difference clearly going to the longer boats at higher speeds. As a bit of Mythbusting though, I concede your point and applaud you for making it.

My feeling is that at around 3mph most boats are pretty close in effort. It's the shape of the effort/speed curve as you get faster that makes the difference. My touring boat, a Pygmy Coho, hits a wall somewhere around 6mph. I can push it faster, but with great effort and not for very long (and I can't keep it at 6 for all that long). But, depending on the load and my conditioning, I can go all day at 4.7-5.2. On a racing hull these numbers are higher, but a real racer can extend them much higher than I because the knee of that rising curve is much farther to the right. They can push it to that point, I can't.

As a final point, all this assumes flat water. In the real world, when it gets lumpy boat handling comes very much into play. In my experiment of one, at my skill level I am much faster on a more stable but theoretically slower boat when I can concentrate more on moving it forward and less on just keeping it upright. And, to toss in another variable, I may also be faster on a heavier boat as its greater mass keeps it from being knocked about as much.
