: Acetone is a simple ketone (ketone: C=O bond) where as denatured alcohol is
: ethanol ( C-OH bond) with a maximum of 10 % methanol (wood alcohol). The
: methanol is added to keep certain folks from imbibing. Use either without
: worry to your health. Acetone would be the worst of these two organic
: solvents to use but doesn't cause any health issues with light use largely
: because it is more volatile, meaning it flashes off more easily and is
: therefore a fire hazzard if vapours are allowed to build up in a small
: closed area. I worked with acetone for 22-yrs without any problems.
: Denatured alcohol is the solvent that most folks know best. Hope this

Back when we did polyester boat layups we used to wash our tools and hands in open buckets of acetone. Used to buy it in 55 gallon drums. Do that often enough and you can feel the differences in reaction times, if you can feel it, it's causing problems.

Of course we used to use R-12 as a hand cleaner at work. Life was easy before one learned about everything that would kill you

Thankfully I don't play with polyester anymore
